Jon Seda and Jason Beghe were on hand earlier this month to talk about their series Chicago P.D., which takes part in an April 29 crossover event with Law & Order: SVU and Chicago Fire. During the interview, I asked Seda what makes Chicago P.D. a creatively gratifying experience.
Beat cop Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) is as tough as they come, but she and partner Roman (Brian Geraghty) may have met their match after their guns and radios are confiscated. Their bloody and life threatening encounter is front and center with tonight’s Chicago P.D. episode “Do What You Do” (NBC, 10 pm et/pt).
Chicago P.D. members Sophia Bush (“Erin Lindsay”) and Jesse Lee Soffer (“Jay Halstead”) were at the Television Critics Association tour to promote the show’s upcoming One Chicago crossover event with Chicago Fire. During the interview, the pair talked about what they’ve learned from their research and first hand interactions with Chicago police officers.
For Bush, having integrity and a strong moral compass are key ingredients to being an effective officer. “Being a cop is tricky,” says the actress. “It’s hard and it’s dangerous and it’s stressful. We don’t take time very often to stop and think about the supreme amount of stress and anxiety these men and women are going through every day.”

Chicago P.D., which also stars Jason Beghe (“Sgt. Hank Voight”) and Jon Seda (“Det. Antonio Dawson”) airs Wednesday evenings on NBC (10 pm et/pt).
Although the budding romance between Chicago P.D.’s Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) and Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) is one of this season’s biggest developments, a huge subject that was on the actors’ minds was the impending Chicago P.D./Chicago Fire crossover event.
Merging the two shows isn’t just a ratings grab, as the episodes deal with the hunt for the arsonist (“Arrow” star Robert Knepper) responsible for killing Leslie Shay (Lauren German).
For Soffer and Bush, working on the crossover episodes gives them a chance to break out of their comfort zone and flex their respective creative muscles. Bush, in the video below, calls it the “coolest experience” she’s ever had on television:
“Chicago P.D.” airs tonight on NBC (10 pm et/pt), and the One Chicago crossover event begins Tuesday, February 3rd with a “Chicago Fire” installment.
Tonight’s episode of Chicago P.D., titled “Now Is Always Temporary,” has Officers Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) and Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) arresting a hoarder that, upon discovery, holds a much more valuable haul than one can imagine.
During a recent interview, Squerciati talked about the bond she has with Hawkins, as both of them are more than thankful to work with Chicago P.D.’s first rate cast and crew. “The days when we’re not on set, when we’re not working – we’re just itching to get back on set,” said the actress, who also had a recurring role on Gossip Girl. “We really love this experience and have fun doing it, so it’s really a blessing. Not everybody gets that.”
In the video below, Hawkins and Squerciati talk about how the various police officers have contributed to Chicago P.D.’s level of accuracy and detail.
