Star People centers on Claire (Kat Cunning), a photographer whose life was immeasurably changed after witnessing The Phoenix Lights in 1997. Now a young woman, she is trying to make sense out of that event after a mysterious tip puts her in the path of discovery.

Along with her UFO streamer boyfriend Justin (Connor Paolo) and brother (McCabe Slye), Claire encounters an immigrant family whose troubles put a wrench in her mission. Eddie Martinez, Bradley Fisher and Adriana Aluna Martinez round out the ensemble.

Finberg has directed music videos and documentaries (After Katrina: Rebuilding St. Bernard Parish), so he had his share of experience before taking on Star People.

“I grew up in the Phoenix area when The Phoenix Lights happened,” said Finberg, whose previous documentary The Business of Recovery also influenced Star People’s storytelling. “I was in high school and remember re-hearing all about that and had friends that had witnessed it. It had always been a really interesting kind of jumping off place to tell a story. And also, I’m a space nerd.”

Catch Star People in theaters July 25 and on VOD August 12. Let us know your thoughts on the movie!
