I am a sucker for romantic comedies, and even the light fluffy ones I am more than willing to digest. “Young Werther,” thankfully, is a full meal romcom thanks to assured direction from filmmaker José Avelino Gilles Corbett Lorenço and inspired work from lead actor Douglas Booth. CinemAddicts co-host Eric Holmes and I review the movie, which is now out in theaters and available On Demand and Digital!
Werther (Douglas Booth) travels with his best friend Paul (Jaouhar Ben Ayed) to Toronto for a family errand. Upon meeting Charlotte (Alison Pill), Werther immediately falls in love. Although there is a spark between them, Charlotte is engaged to a successful lawyer named Albert (Patrick J. Adams). Rounding out the ensemble is Iris Apatow as Charlotte’s free spirit sister and Amrit Kaur as Charlotte’s best friend.
Both Eric and I love “Young Werther,” a romantic comedy that, although wearing its heart on its sleeve, does not devolve into syrupy sentimentality. “Young Werther” is now in theaters and available on Digital and On Demand. Let us know your thoughts on the movie!
