During my salad days a trip to a dive bar, many times all by my lonesome, would be soothe my weary soul. The critically acclaimed feature Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets, which sounds like a moniker from a Jim Thompson novel, is available for one-day virtual screenings on July 8. Utopia is hosting these screenings, with proceeds benefitting the USBG Foundation’s Bartender Emergency Assistance Program COVID-19 Relief Fund.
The July 8, one-day virtual screening celebrates National Dive Bar Day, as Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets centers on the final call of a Las Vegas bar called The Roaring 20s.
If you’ve seen Barfly or more importantly read any of Charles Bukowski’s novels and poetry, then Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets might be up your alley. Memorable conversations and interactions are part of the dive bar experience, and the trailer gives us an inkling that some memorable moments are to be had when the bell finally tolls for The Roaring 20s.
Viewers who pre-order for the July 8 celebration will also be able to watch the post-film Q&A with the cast and crew of Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets.
