In this installment of Flick City we have Chicago Fire actress Kara Killmer discussing her love for the Tom Hanks feature Apollo 13. I also added a video of Killmer recounting some of the jobs she worked before landing steady work as an actress. Videos are below!

Kara Killmer discusses her previous jobs (transcript and video included):
I think I’ve worked every odd job that you could possibly work. I was a laundress at a nursing home. I handed out snacks at a grocery store. I sold jewelry and handbags. I made cold calls which is – the worst!
You work for it. You earn it. You have to have the patience and the confidence that it is going to happen.
I definitely had seasons where I was like, ‘Okay what else?’ But I do love my job and I’m so glad that I stuck with it.
Kara Killmer talks about Apollo 13, which in my opinion is one of director Ron Howard’s best films:
I love Apollo 13. I know that’s weird. I know people don’t usually say something like that. I love stories where you throw people sitting in one attitude at the beginning of a film and then by mostly sheer interaction with each other they are transformed.
There’s something about that film – everything comes together in terms of like the music and the situation that they’re in that for some reason for me, it just makes me very hopeful in who we are as people and Americans.
If it’s on, I will watch it. I’m just like, ‘Okay, Tom Hanks you take me there – we’re going to get back home.’
***I covered Apollo 13’s press junket way back when, and to listen to the raw interviews, check out the follow episode of Matt and Greg Used To Interview Movie Stars, a podcast I co-host with Matt Levitz.
Chicago Fire, co-starring Jesse Spencer, airs Wednesday evenings on NBC (9 pm et/pt).
