After a hugely successful 2013 launch in Japan, Yo-Kai Watch is finally hitting U.S. shores on the Nintendo 3DS. The game centers on a boy who receives a special watch that enables him to befriend creatures named Yo-kai. With his new buddies and his watch, the kid embarks on adventures to fight other Yo-kai and complete various challenges.

Along with a United States release, Yo-Kai Watch is also headed to Latin America, Australia, Europe, Korea and New Zealand. With over 7 million copies sold in Japan, Yo-Kai Watch is hoping to expand its reach worldwide.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re a kid, parent, fan or fan-in-the-making: Everyone will be won over by this charming game,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing.
Back in February, Hasbro announced that it would produce a new toyline for the Yo-Kai Watch franchise in 2016. Previous merchandise and iterations of the Yo-Kai Watch universe, which includes toys, manga, and anime, have already amassed $1 billion in sales (these figures don’t include the sales of the actual game).
“We have seen the massive success of the YO-KAI WATCH franchise in Japan and are thrilled to be chosen to help expand the property to new markets,” said President of Hasbro Brands John Frascotti. “We look forward to creating exciting and innovative play experiences with this amazing property for kids to enjoy around the world.”
