CinemAddicts co-host Bruce Purkey, though a fan of director Chuck Russell’s The Blob remake and A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriorswas not too keen on Witchboard. Starring Madison Iseman, Aaron Dominguez, and Mel Jarnson, the feature was also co-written by Russell.

The New Orleans set narrative centers on Emily (Madison Iseman) and Christian (Aaron Dominguez), a young couple whose lives are negatively impacted by a supernatural artifact. This witchboard holds the soul of a witch (Antonia Desplat). Jamie Campbell Bower co-stars as an antiquities dealer who has his eyes on the item and Mel Jarnson plays an archaelogist who is also Christian’s ex-girlfriend.

Witchboard succeeds for me as passable yet forgettable entertainment. Jarnson and Campbell Bower were the standouts for me, as their respective charisma elevated the material. There is a healthy share of killing in Witchboard, so if you’re looking for a horror film with a sizable body count, you’ve come to the right place. I gave the film ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars and you can listen to my review on this week’s CinemAddicts:

Co-host Bruce Purkey wanted the movie to be a bit more campy and lean into some of its “crazy energy.” “It was just a silly mess that overall just didn’t do much for me,” said Purkey.
