The good news for actress Portia Doubleday is that the top-notch pilot for Mr. Robot is a signal of good things to come for the promising show (she’s a white collar co-worker/childhood friend of the series’ protagonist, who’s played by Rami Malek). In real life, however, Doubleday had first-hand experience of being hacked.

“My information must have been sold, and I was ransomed to my family when I should have been on a flight,” said Doubleday. “They knew where I was – I missed my flight (and) that was the only way I was able to communicate with my family. It was a really big deal, because there was wiring money – and it was (just like) out of a movie (or) out of a TV show. It was so wild.”

If you think hacking is a rare occurrence, check out the video below and let Doubleday and co-star Carly Chaikin, who plays a hacker on the show, set you straight:

Along with the good word of mouth surrounding “Mr. Robot,” Doubleday also had a recent celebration:

You can catch the first episode of Mr. Robot below or watch its season premiere June 24 on USA Network (10 pm et/pt).
