As a fan of Tragedy Girls, I was looking forward to interviewing director Tyler MacIntyre for It’s A Wonderful Knife. Both CinemAddicts co-host Bruce Purkey and I enjoyed the movie, and if you want a holiday-themed slasher film with a bit of heart and levity, this one should be a perfect movie choice. Full interview with MacIntyre is featured below!

It’s A Wonderful Knife centers on Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop), a teenager who saves her small town from a psychotic killer on Christmas Eve. A year later, Winnie is still working through her trauma and is understandably frustrated at her family’s decision to not talk about that incident and move forward. Wishing she had never existed, Winnie gets to see what life in a parallel universe without her. The ensemble includes Jess McLeod as Winnie’s unpopular classmate (she is dubbed a “weirdo”) and Joel McHale plays Winnie’s dad.

The script, penned by Freaky scribe Michael Kennedy, pays homage to Frank Capra’s It’s A Wonderful Life while also giving a light touch to the horror genre.

“We wanted to keep that kind of warm and fuzzy approach to it,” said director Tyler MacIntyre. “It’s a very well meaning slasher movie which is a little unusual. (As far as) It’s A Wonderful Life, I definitely have so much respect for it. That movie is a damn near perfect movie. Frank Capra – you’d be hard pressed to find a better craftsman than him.”
