‘The Substance’ Movie Review And Spoilers – The Best Film of the Year?

CinemAddicts co-host Bruce Purkey reviews and delivers spoilers for “The Substance.” The picture, starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, is one of Purkey’s favorite films of 2024. It is also in the running for Purkey’s #1 spot! First eight minutes of the review is spoilier-free, and then the rest of the Video features a spoiler discussion.

“The Substance” centers on Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore), a former A-list performer who is fired from her fitness TV show by studio heady Harvey (Dennis Quaid). When Elisabeth is presented with a new drug called “The Substance,” she transforms into the twentysomething Sue (Margaret Qualley).

The catch is that one week she must be herself, and the other week she experience her long lost youth with Sue. Coralie Fargeat, who made a splash back in 2017 with “Revenge,” directed and wrote “The Substance.” You can catch the film streaming on MUBI and it is also available on Digital and On Demand.
