A big part of The Salt Path deals with the emotional and physical challenges of the trek, and cinephiles who are nature fans. That said, Bruce Purkey said the film would be a “hard recommend” for others. “Will you enjoy this movie,” said Purkey. “I think (you will if you) enjoy somewhat of a travelogue. Or two people reconnecting with themselves and their spiritual/natural world in more of a poetic and quiet way and not a plot heavy way. You could enjoy a fair amount of this.”

The feature, based on Raynor Winn’s The Salt Path: A Memoir, has received its share of controversy regarding the story’s veracity. Purkey briefly covers those issues in his review, and ultimately he still recommends the movie. “Can you still enjoy the movie knowing that a whole bunch of it isn’t the real world of these people,” said Purkey. “I think you could and the themes are really still valid. I enjoyed it to the degree based on the knowledgel lthat it’s not what really happened to these real people. (But) this could happen to real people and it doesn’t matter. It could still be true to the nature of the world and humanity.”

“Of course, I’m a sucker for anthing with Gillian Anderson in it,” added Purkey. “I know a lot of people do love her, but I think she’s highly underrated and under utilized in films these days.” Along with The Salt Path, Anderson was recently seen in Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma
