Black Widow takes place between the events of Civil War and Infinity War, so maybe a rewatch of Captain America: Civil War is due once Black Widow hits theaters May 1, 2020. I’m absolutely all in with this film just from watching the teaser trailer, and my thoughts as well as the clip are below!

It obviously took longer than expected to see Scarlett Johansson headline her own Marvel film, and with the events of Avengers: Endgame one would wonder if Black Widow is simply a one-off, thank you for doing business with us installment for Johansson. My guess is there are more Black Widow films in the offing.

That said, maybe Florence Pugh is being groomed as the next Black Widow, as her character Yelena actually becomes the anti-heroine in the comic books. Rachel Weisz as Melina and David Harbour as The Red Guardian (he nearly steals the show in the teaser), along with Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) round out the ensemble.

A longer trailer was rolled out several months ago at D23, and it focused on Natasha Romanoff’s (Johansson) trip to Budapest. This teaser is giving off Captain America: The Winter Soldier vibes, and although the action set pieces should be jaw dropping, I’m hoping for a more grounded, human feel to the proceedings.

With so many fans waiting on bated breath for a Johansson film of her own, along with the absolutely crazy momentum of Florence Pugh (Midsommar and Little Women are two of the best films of 2019), Black Widow is definitely coming in hot!!

One movie I’ll definitely check out before May 1st roles around is the 2017 feature Berlin Syndrome, directed by Black Widow filmmaker Cate Shortland. I haven’t seen any of her movies (Berlin Syndrome is available on Netflix), so I’d love to see why the higher-ups at Marvel are giving Shortland a shot.

What did you think of the teaser? Are you excited for Black Widow and as far as Johansson is concerned, is Marriage Story on your list of movies to watch? Feel free to comment below!
