Master Gardener, the latest feature from filmmaker Paul Schrader, is now available on Premium Video On Demand (PVOD). Running at 110 minutes, the feature contains first rate performances from Joel Edgerton, Sigourney Weaver, and Quintessa Swindell.
Narvel Roth (Joel Edgerton) is a horticulturist of Gracewood Gardens, a property owned by wealthy dowager Mrs. Haverhill (Sigourney Weaver). Haverhill asks Narvel to mentor her great-niece Maya (Quintessa Swindell), and it is a job that he must accept.
Focused mainly on the garden, Narvel’s spartan lifestyle opens up thanks to his friendship with Maya. Her own problems, however, leads to Narvel to reconcile with his own dark past.
Although not as strong as First Reformed and The Card Counter, Master Gardener is still a recommend on my end. I’m a Paul Schrader fan, and I can’t remember a film of his that I didn’t like. CinemAddicts co-host Bruce Purkey felt a completely different way. Check out our review below:
