“Maybe I’m just meant for dark horror comedies,” mused Michelle Krusiec, the filmmaker behind the Bite Size Halloween short Nian. Find Your Film host Eric Holmes interviewed Krusiec about Nian, and she also delved into her directing and acting journey during the chat. If you are not a Hulu subscriber, Nian is available on its YouTube channel, and the video is in our post.

“The idea of Nian was to not only draw upon the myth and create the idea of how to use this as an origin piece,” said Michelle Krusiec, who headlined the horror thriller They Live in the Grey earlier this year. “But it was also an opportunity for me to visually create the things that I am drawn to which is the idea of horror – what I like is when horror is beautiful. Like Bram Stoker’s Dracula, when Francis Ford Coppola did it. When horror is beautiful in a theatrical way, that for me pulls from my background having come from theater and also my love for Butoh.”
