“Tyler Perry’s Duplicity” centers on Marley (Kat Graham), a high powered attorney who is seeking justice for the police killing of her best friend Fela’s (Meagan Tandy) husband (Joshua Adeyeye). Marley’s private eye boyfriend (Tyler Lepley) helps gather the clues to ensure Marley’s case is on steady ground. Perry wrote, produced and directed this multi-layered thriller. I noted that viewers will get two movies for the price of one. Graham concurred.

“You’re going to get the drama, and you’re going to get the action,” said Graham. “You’re going to get the thriller, and you’re going to get the heartbreak. A little bit of romance, back to some action, some thriller, some heartfelt, real storytelling (that is) grounded inreality of what we’re actually experiencing as a country. I feel like you get so many movies in one, especially because when you don’t know how the next act is going to go and you’re in act four, you know what I’m saying? That’s got to tell you that you’re you’re dealing with a couple different movies in one here.”

In suspense thrillers, usually the protagonist has a fear or character flaw that he or she must face and overcome. In “Tyler Perry’s Duplicity,” Marley has trust issues, and that also extends to how much she can actually trust her closest friends.
“The most important thing about this movie is that you got to learn how to trust yourself, because sometimes we think that we are not being a good friend by not trusting other people,” said Graham. “But the reality is, if you trust yourself, you’ll know by intuition who’s doing you right and who’s doing your dirty.”
