I mentioned on the recent episode of CinemAddicts that I am sick of romantic comedies set in New York City. That being said, having Holly Hunter and Tony Shalhoub as your leads has changed my mind (at least for now), as I’m looking forward to checking out Breakable You. Trailer and plot details below!

In Breakable You, Hunter (who should have received a supporting Oscar nod for The Big Sick) plays is Eleanor Weller, a therapist who’s starting a new chapter after divorcing her playwright husband (Monk’s Tony Shalhoub). Along with a possible romance with her former brother-in-law (Alfred Molina) and a neurotic daughter (Cristin Milioti), Eleanor’s life is filled with complications. Andrew Wagner, who previously helmed Starting Out in the Evening and The Talent Given Us, is the director.

The movie hits Digital March 13 via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and I’ll be reviewing the film on this site if a screener link comes my way.

During his run on the successful Monk, Shalhoub always made himself available to the press (Molina has also been extremely open to the press), so I’m pulling for this movie to work out. It’s true that way too many romantic comedies and dramas are shot in New York, but having a solid ensemble anchor the narrative has soothed my own nitpick driven opinions.
