Pharrell Williams hit it right on the nose when he described The Voice artist Amy Vachal as the type of singer who could brighten a person’s day. Though “Sunday Kind of Love” was her strongest performance thus far, Pharrell went with Madi Davis during the Knockout rounds. But Vachal’s journey on The Voice continues, as Adam Levine and Blake Shelton went for the steal, with Vachal picking Levine as her new coach.

Though some of The Voice’s more powerhouse singers may get the most attention, Vachal’s subtle yet intuitive approach to her music has garnered her success on the show, and her two song choices (“Dream a Little Dream of Me” for the Blinds & “Sunday Kind of Love” for the Knockouts) display a singer with an infinity for those beautiful standards of yesteryear. Heading into the Live Playoffs, it’ll be interesting to see which musical direction Vachal chooses (I’d love for her to break out her guitar once again – Blake Shelton praised her strumming skills during the Blinds).
During our interview, Vachal talked about the love and support she’s received from the Filipino community (she’s Filipino-American), the constructive criticism she received during the Knockouts from Rihanna, and her excitement over her Live Playoffs collaboration with Adam Levine (he couldn’t pick her during the Blinds as his roster was full). Lastly, she also discussed how The Voice has helped her as a singer-songwriter.
Check out our interview below (the chat took place the morning after Vachal’s performance on the Knockouts).
