Dread Central Presents, the makers of the excellent Gothic thriller The Lodgers, is keeping things simple and changing its name to Dread. The Golem, the company’s first in-house production, comes out February 5, and pre-production will soon begin on the Natasha Kermani (Imitation Girl) directed horror feature Lucky.

Lucky centers on May, a suburban mom who is consistently stalked by a threatening figure. Sans evidence and witnesses, her sanity is questioned by authorities, leaving her to survive on her own. The script was penned by actress, podcaster, and filmmaker Brea Grant (Dexter, Best Friends Forever). Grant will also star in the feature.

Lucky is a story that needs to be told now,” said Natasha Kermani. “Brea has created a world that is a nightmarish parallel to the one we live in, close enough to feel terrifying when it all starts to unravel.”

“This script is so important to me and I can’t imagine a better team than Natasha and Dread,” said Grant. “We are so excited to bring it to life. This project combines current cultural themes and my love of horror. It is the perfect time to make it and I’m so happy to have Dread on as a partner.”

Other Dread films slated for release this year include Book of Monsters (March 19), Black Site (April 9) and a “military zombie epic” called Redcon-1 (May). Along with The Lodgers, Dread’s previous releases include To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story and Director’s Cut (helmed by Penn Jillette).
