Donny Deutsch Talks ‘Donny!’ And Importance of Authenticity

Donny! - Season 1

Donny Deutsch offers up a heightened version of himself in the new series Donny! Though this mostly fictional character is narcissistic and charming, he’s often the butt of the joke thanks to his unpredictable and self-deprecating behavior. Emily Tarver co-stars as Pam, the executive producer of Deutsch’s show who tries her best to keep Deutsch from going off the rails.

Though Donny! will hopefully showcase Deutsch’s comedic chops, the program isn’t just a one man show.

“So this character is just wandering through life,” said Deutsch, whom we interviewed during the NBC/Universal TCA tour. “Thank God, like in real life, he has these powerful, smart women around him. Women always win – the women are the powerful force on the show. Although the lead character is male, it’s really about the superiority of women.”

During his years in the advertising business as well as spearheading his own TV ventures, Deutsch has been successful at communicating his vision and working well with others. I asked him what are some of the qualities that has led to his success. For him, it’s all about authenticity. Check out our video below (Emily Tarver is also in the vid):
