The new (and funny) sitcom Crowded centers on Mike (Patrick Warburton) and Martina (Carrie Preston) whose dreams of an empty nest are put on hold after their daughters (Miranda Cosgrove, Mia Serafino) move back home and Mike’s parents (Stacy Keach, Carlease Burke) decide not to retire in Florida. During our interviews with Warburton and Preston, they talked about t heir own family journey.

Mike and his dad Bob have totally different parental methods, as Bob comes from a more authoritarian, old school approach while Mike (and Martina) have a more hands on, amiable approach to parenting. For Warburton, being a friend as well as a parent to his children has put him in good stead.
“It’s actually worked well for us,” said Warburton. “They’ve loved and respected us and truly turned out to be great, great human beings – all of them. (They) didn’t turn out to be rebellious asses like I did. There wasn’t always that rift – we seem to be reaping so many blessings and rewards for having that kind of relationship.”
Moving back home is not a foreign concept to Preston, as she reflects on spending quality time with her mother after graduating college. Click on the media bar below to hear Preston talk about that experience (Warburton can be heard at the end of the clip):
Crowded premieres tonight on NBC (9:30/8:30c).
