‘Relic’ Review: Emily Mortimer Toplines “Emotionally Devastating” Horror Film

Relic (2020 — Video On Demand) is the impressive feature debut by Australian director, Natalie Erika James. Following in the footsteps of other recent, slow-burn, arthouse horror debuts (Hereditary, The Witch, and The Babadook), Relic aims to tell a story of human relationships, shrouded in the guise of horror.

‘The Duke of Burgundy’ Review: A Subtle And Surprising Love Story
The Duke of Burgundy is the third feature by director, Peter Strickland. Unlike the lurid, popcorn melodrama of 50 Shades of Grey, The Duke of Burgundy takes a complex and subtle view of the power dynamics of a dominant/submissive love story.
KiKi Layne And Charlize Theron Deliver First Rate Work In ‘The Old Guard’

Although its moniker feels ancient, The Old Guard brings a ton of fresh perspectives into the action thriller genre. Gina Prince-Blythewood, a director who has received acclaim for Love & Basketball and Beyond the Lights, was an inspired choice to helm the feature, and I never envisioned If Beale Street Could Talk’s KiKi Layne anchoring this movie. We are conditioned to see such films directed by a male filmmaker with a bankable male action veteran with maybe a younger, charismatic male actor as the vet’s sidekick; so it’s refreshing to see whenever a film goes an entirely different direction. Basically, there are very few things that are “old” about this movie.

If I had ample time on my art, pixel art adventure titles would be one of my go to adventures of choice. I am definitely intrigued by the puzzle platformer REZ PLZ which hits Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam on July 15.
