Jean-Claude Van Damme is one of cinema’s most iconic action heroes, but with “Darkness of Man” he takes it down a notch with a more grounded narrative. He plays Russell Hatch, a former Interpol operative who has sworn to protect Jayden (Emerson Min), the son of a slain informant (Chika Kanamoto). Directed and co-written by James Cullen Bressack, the feature is now out on Digital and hits DVD June 4th. Check out our CinemAddicts review below!

A huge selling point for “Darkness of Man” is that Jean-Claude Van Damme does not play a one man killing machine. This action thriller features JCVD as an individual who is not indestructible, and throughout the movie his character gets his share of bumps and bruises. Filmmaker/writer James Cullen Bressack paid homage to a couple of his favorite movies (“The Maltese Falcon,” “Oldboy”) with Darkness of Man, and he talked to Deepest Dream about making another engaging feature.

Kristanna Loken (“Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines,” “BloodRayne”) has starred in her share of action driven projects, and on the surface “Darkness of Man” is another addition to that genre. Headlined by Jean-Claude Van Damme, “Darkness of Man” is a noirish crime drama mainly set in Los Angeles’ Koreatown district. Loken talked about her latest project is not a typical action film and she also elaborated on her goals as a producer.

Review: Is ‘Cinema Paradiso’ An Italian Cinema Masterpiece Or Overrated Schmaltz?

0

Cinema Paradiso, won an Oscar for Best Foreign film back in 1990. It’s a film about Salvatore, a disillusioned filmmaker (Jacques Perrin) who travels back to his hometown for the funeral of his dear friend (and film projectionist) Alfredo (Philippe Noiret). With a sweeping Ennio Morricone score, beautiful story, and a sure storytelling hand from director Giuseppe Tornatore, what could go wrong? I have loved this movie since its release, but CinemAddicts hosts Bruce Purkey and Eric Holmes found the film too schmaltzy for its own good! Check out their review below!
