Jack Delroy (David Dastmalchian) is the late night talk show host of Night Owls, and he is determined to beat Johnny Carson during the ratings sweep. Filmmakers Cameron and Colin Cairnes talked to Deepest Dream about their critically acclaimed feature which is now playing in theaters.
Kim Quinn produces and stars in American Dreamer, a movie inspired by a true story taken from Chicago Public Radio’s This American Life. Peter Dinklage is Phil Loder, a frustrated economics professor who strikes a home ownership deal with widow Astrid Finnelli (Shirley MacLaine). His dream home plans take a turn when he discovers Astrid may have other plans for her property! Quinn talked to Deepest Dream about the feature, which is penned and co-produced by her husband Ted Melfi.

Samuel L. Jackson stars in Damaged as Dan Lawson, a Chicago police detective who heads to Scotland. This is not a vacation, as Lawson teams with the local authorities to track down a serial killer who may have committed similar crimes in the Windy City. Vincent Cassell (Westworld), John Hannah (Sliding Doors), and Gianni Capaldi (A Day to Die) round out the ensemble.

Actress Romola Garai (Miss Marx, Suffragette) stars with Anthony Hopkins,Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Flynn in One Life. She plays Doreen Warriner, a humanitarian who aided Nicky Winton’s (Flynn) rescue of over 600 children in pre-World War II Czechoslovakia. I’m a huge fan of Garai’s directing debut Amulet, and she also discussed hher filmmaker ventures during the interview.
French Girl, starring Zach Braff, Evelyne Brochu and Vanessa Hudgens, may seem lke another light and fluffy romantic comedy. Filmmaker Nicolas Wright, however, says the movie is actually a “deeply personal film” for himself and co-director James A. Woods. The pair broke onto the scene in a big way back in 2016 thanks to their Independence Day: Resurgence screenplay. This time out, they make their feature directing debut with French Girl.
Paul and Ben China wrote and directed the new suspense/horror/thriller Night Shift.Phoebe Tonkin is Gwen, a woman who is working her first shift at a remote and possibly haunted hotel. This is a feature that all of us at CinemAddicts recommend (our review is also in the post), and I had the chance to chat with The China Brothers about Night Shift. The twins talked to Deepest Dream about why their collaborations, in general, are “seamless.”
Now playing in theaters, Accidental Texan centers on Erwin (Rudy Pankow), a young actor stranded in Texas after his car breaks down. Coming to his aid is an oil driller named Merle (Thomas Haden Church), and Merle offers Erwin a possibly life changing deal. Erwin is hired to help Merle out of bankruptcy and lay claim to a piece of property that will strike oil. Director Mark Bristol talked to deepest Dream about his debut feature. Working years as an in-demand storyboard artist helped him prepare for Accidental Texan!
