CinemAddicts co-host Bruce Purkey was not a fan of the new family feature “Autumn and the Black Jaguar.” I had a more positive response to the film, and you can hear my take on our latest CinemAddicts episode. Check out Purkey’s video review in this post, and our respective reviews of the film are also featured in the audio version.

Autumn (Lumi Pollack) is a teenager in New York City who misses her early days in the Amazon rainforest. Now 14, Autumn still misses the black jaguar she bonded with as a child. Upon discovering the jaguar is in danger, Autumn travels to the Amazon. Joining her on the trip is her biology teacher Anja (Emily Bett Rickards).
Directed by Gilles de Maistre (“Mia and the White Lion”), this is an engaging enough family film. There is a suprisingly effective action sequence in the midle of the film where Autumn and Anja (and the jaguar) are eluding the poachers. Their trek through the dangerous waters leads them to seek shelter at the top of the jungle, and that section is one of the reasons why I dug “Autumn and the Black Jaguar.”
Check out my positive review and Bruce’s take on CinemAddicts:
Bruce describes the Autumn as a “terrible” and “dumb” character since she is basically risking her life in the Amazon with poachers just right around the corner. Although I can see his point, I was fine with Autumn. Emily Bett Rickards’ Anja is a highly neurotic person, and I was okay with that as well!
