Written and directed by Emma Higgins, Sweetness centers on an introverted teen (Kate Hallett) whose life seemingly takes a turn for the better when her life becomes intertwined with her rock star idol (Herman Tømmeraas). This fateful meeting leads to unexpected occurences, and credit goes to Higgins for crafting an uncompromising and tension filled tale. Higgins talked to Deepest Dream about why Sweetness is far from a sugary tale. Check out the interview below!

Rylee (Kate Hallett) is a bullied teen, with just her best friend Sidney (Aya Furukawa) as her support system. She keeps her policeman father (Justin Chatwin) at arm’s length, and her world is usually anchored in listening to rock star Payton’s (Herman Tømmerass) music.
When Rylee and Payton’s life are joined thanks to a twist of fate, Rylee can’t believe her luck. But when she realizes Payton has slipped back into drug addiction, she will do anything it takes to get him clean.
Buoyed by first rate work from Hallett and Tømmerass, Sweetness also features uncompromising and gritty storytelling from Emma Higgins.
“I appreciate any film that takes a huge swing. That just goes for it and commits to the bit,” said Higgins, whose cast and crew had just 18 days to shoot the movie. “And I think that that is the goal every filmmaker and storyteller should have; a strong sense of self and a strong sense of what you’re making.”
