Starring Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal, the feature is now available for rent/purchase on Digital and hits Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray on October 21. Since CinemAddicts co-host Bruce Purkey is a huge Aster fan, he was already in the bag for an Eddington positive review. Check out his take on the film as he discusses why this “subversive” film absolutely works!

The narrative, set in May 2020, centers on the conflict between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) which leads to increased tension among the residents in Eddington, New Mexico. The ensemble includes Austin Butler, Emma Stone, and Luke Grimes.

Although Bruce Purkey sees Eddington as Ari Aster’s “weakest” movie, he still really enjoyed the feature and added that all of the director’s other movies are “five star” experiences.

“As a political satire, it’s on the nose,” said Purkey. “And I think that’s what a lot of people have not responded well to that it’s almost too on the nose for them. They lived through it. They don’t need to see it again. And this doesn’t move the needle for them in any way.”
