Directed and penned by Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect 2), who was seen earlier in the excellent horror film Brightburn, Charlie’s Angels features a new trio (Ella Balinska, Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott) taking on the iconic franchise. Banks is also part of the ensemble as one of the Bosleys (other Bosley participants include Patrick Stewart and Djimon Hounsou).
Charlie’s Angels marks Balinska’s (The Athena) highest profile project to date. “It was an instant sisterhood,” said Balinska on her bond with Stewart and Scott. “I love them to pieces. We hang out even when we’re not working. We had a lot of fun and it shows I hope. It was wicked.”
Obviously the main goal of the film is to succeed as popcorn fueled entertainment, but to Balinksa Charlie’s Angels has much more depth to the proceedings.
“I think there is such an incredible opportunity to show women at their strongest,” said Balinska. “Doing what they love and doing it well. Elizabeth always says for this film she wanted to have this idea that these women fought smarter. Where we have our strengths and weaknesses, we build each other up. You see us win, cry, laugh and fail and all that. It’s a real accurate depiction of women in the workplace.”
