Woody Harrelson stars as Jeannette’s alcoholic father who moves his family from town to town due to his inability to keep a job. Though Jeannette’s career as a writer would land her a life in New York, the bonds of her family (Naomi Watts stars as the mother) are never broken.
The trailer makes The Glass Castle look like a potential tearjerker, but as evidenced from Short Term 12 Cretton is not a sucker for overblown sentiment. The emotions that surface from his narratives come from a very organic place, and Walls’ interesting and inspiring tale seems like the perfect vehicle from him and Larson.
I’m just glad the second half of this trailer spotlights the wonderful Reuben and the Dark tune “Black Water” – it’s the perfect song to tie into the connective thread of The Glass Castle (the song’s lyric “I like fate in the lion’s cage” is perfect for Harrelson’s character). Anyways, check out the trailer below and tell us what you think!!
The Glass Castle opens nationwide August 11.
