I gave the proverbial thumbs up to the last two Vertical Entertainment films I checked out (Inheritance and Capone) and Ghosts of War has the makings of an effective thriller. Combining the brutality of World War II and horror is an intriguing mix, the trailer has peaked my interest.

The story centers on five American soliders (Brenton Thwaites, Alan Richson, Skylar Astin, Theo Rossi, Kyle Gallner) who are assigned to hold down a French Chauteau near the end of World War II. The property was previously occupied by high ranking Nazis, but the soldiers probably think they have a good assignment considering their new digs.

Unfortunately, the place may be haunted by the previous family and along with trying to fend off the Nazis these men are probably up s**t’s creek without a paddle. The picture marks writer-director Eric Bress’ first feature since 2004’s underrated The Butterfly Effect (Bress also created the TV series Kyle XY), so my expectations are definitely peaked.

Ghosts of War, co-starring Billy Zane, hits Virtual Cinema Screenings, On Demand and Digital on July 17 (it hits DirectTV on June 18). Tell us what you think of the trailer!
