The Voice artist Toni Lorene garnered a three chair turn for her rendition of Lizzo’s “Cuz I Love You” on the Blinds. Snoop Dogg picked her over Sadie Dahl on the Battles after their performance of Rihanna’s “Love On The Brain.” Tonight on the knockouts, she takes on fellow Team Snoop member Natalia Albertini. Lorene talked to Deepest Dream after the Battles, and the Houston native reflected on how The Voice has helped shape her “true self.”

Standout renditions of “Cuz I Love You” and “Love on the Brain” prove that
Toni Lorene has a distinct voice. During the interview, Lorene talked about working on Cocomelon and performing on a cruise ship. Lorene’s recent journey on The Voice has helped hone her craft as well.
“ Over that time, most of my artistry has gone into acting for TV, film, voice acting, and theater,” said Lorene, who has been in Los Angeles for over seven years. “Being on The Voice, it actually came from me singing in a band on a cruise ship for six months in the middle of the ocean. That’s actually how the process started, and my creativity had been used in other ways. It started on the cruise ship for me, getting to sing all genres of music to adults.”

“The Voice pushed me in the direction of feeling like, ‘Okay, people actually want to just hear my voice.’ I was used to singing in musical theater. (I was) playing a role and not being my true self. I didn’t think that people would want to hear my voice for what it was on its own. Now that I have this different platform and have been a little successful, it’s started the gears working. In the next few months to a year, you should be seeing some EPs and (me) working on music.”
