Directed by Alex Holmes, The Last Rider is a documentary about legendary American cyclist Greg LeMond. A three time Tour de France winner, LeMond came back from a traumatic incident to go toe to toe with fellow cyclist Laurent Fignon at the 1989 Tour de France. The documentary also features interviews with LeMond’s wife Kathy and Spanish bicycler Pedro Delgado. Full interview with Lemond and Holmes is featured below.

Having been a fan of the inspiring documentary Maiden, I was looking forward to Alex Holmes’ next project. He doesn’t disappoint with The Last Rider, a first rate look at Greg LeMond’s ability to overcome adversity and become a Tour de France champion. The coverage of the 1989 Tour de France is simply immersive and electric. Whether or not you are familiar with LeMond’s career, The Last Rider should have you on the edge of your seat all through its final moment.
