The horror-thriller centers on Sadie Harper (Yellowjackets’ Sophie Thatcher), a high school student who, along with her younger sister Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair), are shaken by their mother’s recent death. Their father Will (Chris Messina) is a therapist but he is not offering them enough emotional support.

When a patient shows up at their house for help, he leaves a supernatural entity that feds on the pain of its victims. The ensemble includes Marin Ireland, Madison Hu, David Dastmalchian and LisaGay Hamilton. Rob Savage directed The Boogeyman, which was penned by Scott Beck, Bryan Woods, and Mark Heyman.

The Boogeyman is a classic horror movie in the mold of Poltergeist that has scares and heart in equal mesaure,” said Savage. “I vividlly remember the terror I felt reading King’s short story as a kind, and it’s this feeling of childhood fear that I wanted to inspire in cinema audiences around the world.”

“It’s the thing that comes for your kids when you’re not paying attention,” says David Dastmalchian to, presumably, Messina’s character. Couple that with Thatcher yelling “there’s no such things as monsers” only to be proven wrong and you’ve got a movie I definitely want to see.
