I’ve already used the pun in this post’s title, so no more puns regarding Parisa Fitz-Henley who plays a witch on the new NBC series Midnight, Texas. Based on a series of books by True Blood scribe Charlaine Harris, the show is off to a solid start thanks to solid writing and a diverse set of characters. To hear Fitz-Henley discuss Wicca and her character Fiji, read below!

“In the beginning of the series we see that she’s really a caretaker for others and she really needs to learn how to take care of her own self too. Fiji is an extremely powerful witch and she’s not so comfortable with her power in the beginning,” said Fitz-Henley whose previous work includes the Marvel/Netflix series Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. “So we get to go on a journey (as she’s) finding out how to wield that power in a way that really works.”

Fitz-Henley, who added she grew up around various spiritual traditions, talked about what insight she gleaned regarding Wicca during her Midnight, Texas research (co-star Dylan Bruce is also heard in the clip):

Co-starring Francois Arnaud and Yul Vázquez, Midnight, Texas airs Monday evenings on NBC (10/9c).
