Genre hopping is part of Nicky Whelan’s acting resume. She had a traumatic encounter with a shark in 2002’s Maneater and now she is soaked in water and dealing with alligators in The Flood. I also enjoyed the action thriller The Best Man, released earlier this year and really appreciated 2021’s underrated drama Last Night in Rozzie. She has a total salt of the earth personality, as you can see from her latest interview with CinemAddicts co-host Eric Holmes.

Being waist-deep in water for The Flood was one of the production’s challenges, and co-star Casper Van Dien remarked in his interview that it was “disgusting.” “It is disgusting, it’s very uncomfortable,” said Whelan. “We’re in this slushy, muddy paddock. Huge factory in the middle of Bangkok. Stinking hot night shoots with these water trucks coming in filling up the factory with sludgy water. Everyone’s in it, so it’s filthy. You can’t see anything. It helps set the vibe of what’s taking place in the movie. And it helped us get into the craziness of it all.”

“It was a challenge for all of us, but you sort of felt very accomplished every morning going back to the hotel,” added Whelan.

Along with The Flood, we review Lakota Nation vs. United States and The Channel on CinemAddicts:

Full interview with Nicky Whelan is below, and the chat also includes an interesting story on working with Knight of Cups director Terrence Malick.

The Flood is now out in theaters and is available on Digital and On Demand.
