Take one look at Max Martini’s career and you will see a ton of, as Martini describes, “uniformed roles.” That said, he infuses these parts with three dimensional layers (check out his work in The Unit and Sgt. Will Gardner). Hollywood Grit is an entirely different venture for Martini, as he plays Grit Thorn, an alcoholic private investigator who is on a seemingly fruitless search for his missing daughter (Ysabela Espinosa). Martini talked to Deepest Dream about Hollywood Grit and reflects on his past cinematic collaborations with Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim) , Michael Bay (13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi)  and George Clooney (The Tender Bar).

“I’m generally in the action kind of military space,” said Max Martini, who was most recently seen in the action/sci-fi Osiris. “This was a different genre for me and I loved that I could just come in and explore the comedic elements and factors that might influence this character’s behavoir. For me it was very freeing artistically to kind of not have any boundaries and just go in and be part of a new genre and a different kind of character.”

A blend of film noir and comedy, Hollywood Grit features memorable work from co-stars Patrick Duffy and Linda Purl and top notch jazz from musician Nick Gomez. Directed and written by Ryan Curtis, Hollywood Grit hits August 22nd. Check out Martini’s full interview below and share your thoughts on the film in the comments!
