Bethany Joy Lenz on Equilibrium:

One of my favorite movies is Equilibrium. It flew under the radar. (It stars) Christian Bale, Taye Diggs, (and) Sean Bean. It’s a very sort of Ray Bradbury, Orwellian type of story. I love it so much because I can resonate with living in a space where you crave the safety of not having to make your own decisions and crave the safety of just having somebody else sort of telling you what to do all the time. Then you feel like you’re safe but you’re not actually living.

When you get to see Christian Bale star to peel . . . he stops taking those stop emoting pills and he peels back this film on his window and he starts to see the sun for the first time coming through the window – he feels emotions for the first time in his life. (He’s thinking) ‘I don’t know if I’m safe’ or ‘I don’t know if I’m going to make the right choices’ but I’m living! The feeling of that freedom is so powerful and that’s why I love that movie.

Are you a fan of Equilibrium? I was recommended this movie by a close friend years ago but I still haven’t given this flick a shot.
