The Angry Black Girl And Her Monster, hitting theaters June 9, is a first rate horror/thriller that marks Bomani J. Story’s feature film debut. He also penned the tale which centers on a teenager (Laya DeLeon Hayes) who resurrects her dead brother with her scientific know-how. Inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the film is highly recommended from the entire CinemAddicts crew. Check out our review and latest podcast!

The Angry Black Girl And Her Monster co-stars Chad Coleman (The Walking Dead) as her disconsolate and overworked father and Denzel Whitaker as the manipulative drug dealer Kango.

For horror genre fans, the practical effects and Frankenstein homage should be welcome. Bruce Purkey was actually more hooked in to the family story, and Eric Holmes loved everything about this movie. I butchered the pronounciation of Laya DeLeon Hayes in the review. I have not seen her work on The Equalizer, but this movie absolutely puts her impressiv acting skills on display. Vicaria (Hayes), a teenager who will do anything to bring her brother back from the dead, is a memorable and flawed individual.

It is an inspired, uncompromising feature from director/writer Bomani J. Story. Although it tips its hat to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, The Angry Black Girl And Her Monster is a singular experience.
