The Lost Bus, the latest movie from filmmaker Paul Greengrass (United 93, Jason Bourne), is the true story of bus driver Kevin McKay’s (Matthew McConaughey) attempts to drive 22 children and school teacher (America Ferrera) to safety during an inferno. Filmmaker Sean Ellis (Metro Manila, Anthropoid, The Cursed) brings a unique vision to whichever genre he tackles. With The Cut, he follows the journey of a former boxer (Orlando Bloom) who will return to the ring only if he makes the weight. If the pugilist doesn’t make “the cut” (Bloom’s character needs to lose 30 pounds in six days), then the match won’t take place. It’s a nice twist to a boxing movie, and Ellis talked to Deepest Dream about his latest project and also reflects on his directing journey.
Emmy Award winning filmmaker Kahlil Hudson (Navajo Police: Class 57, Independent Lens ep. ‘Wildland’) collaborated with storyteller James Dommek Jr. for the documentary Blood & Myth. Based on Dommek Jr.’s bestselling Audible original Midnight Son, the documentary premieres September 4 on Hulu.
Rebekah Kennedy reunites with Two Witches director Pierre Tsigaridis for Traumatika. Their latest collaboration hits theaters September 12, and Kennedy discussed her appreciation of the horror genre. She also reflected on one of the most important pieces of acting advice she received (while working on Criminal Minds) and why she loves working with Tsigaridis.
