Now available on Digital and On Demand, Dusk for a Hitman is a first rate crime thriller that is based on a true story. Donald Lavoie (Éric Bruneau) is a hitman who is unfailingly loyal to mob boss Claude Dubois (Benoît Gouin). When his irresponsible brother Carl (Simon Landry-Desy) enters the picture, Donald must choose whether his crime organization is more important than family ties. Filmmaker/co-writer Raymond St-Jean talked to Deepest Dream about his Dusk for a Hitman experience.

Review: Is ‘Cinema Paradiso’ An Italian Cinema Masterpiece Or Overrated Schmaltz?

0

Cinema Paradiso, won an Oscar for Best Foreign film back in 1990. It’s a film about Salvatore, a disillusioned filmmaker (Jacques Perrin) who travels back to his hometown for the funeral of his dear friend (and film projectionist) Alfredo (Philippe Noiret). With a sweeping Ennio Morricone score, beautiful story, and a sure storytelling hand from director Giuseppe Tornatore, what could go wrong? I have loved this movie since its release, but CinemAddicts hosts Bruce Purkey and Eric Holmes found the film too schmaltzy for its own good! Check out their review below!

As of this posting, Civil War has an 80% (critics) and 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. CinemAddicts hosts Bruce Purkey and Eric Holmes were both dissatisfied with the feature, giving the movie 2.5/5 stars. Director/writer Alex Garland did not give a clear picture on the political leanings of either side of the Civil War, and this decision was, according to Purkey, “toothless.” They review the film as well as discuss spoilers below!

A crime thriller that should be on your radar this weekend is Dusk For A Hitman. The feature, now out On Demand and Digital, is inspired by the true story of hitman Donald Lavoie (Éric Bruneau). Directed by Raymond St-Jean, the narrative admittedly brings a ton of fictional events to the proceedings, but that does not deter from the realistic and gritty feel to Dusk For A Hitman. Bruneau talked about why he is “proud” of the movie and what made this a unique project.

The new HBO documentary An American Bombing: The Road to April 19th explores the possible anti-government viewpoints and political violence that may have led to the Oklahoma City bombing. Those ideals continue today, and An American Bombing: The Road to April 19th will hopefully give viewers a wider look at this tragic event. Director Marc Levin talked about his new documentary which is produced by Daphne Pinkerson.

CinemAddicts Movie Pick: ‘The First Omen’ (Nell Tiger Free, Bill Nighy)

0

The First Omen has a 69% (audience) and 80% (critics) Rotten Tomatoes score. Even with the solid reviews, the feature has made just $19.9 at the box office (worldwide estimates) into its second weekend. Maybe good word of mouth will help draw more viewers, and CinemAddicts co-host Bruce Purkey had nothing but praise for The First Omen.

CinemAddicts co-host Eric Holmes and I are Nicolas Cage fans, and this week we had the chance to check out Arcadian. Directed by Benjamin Brewer, the film centers on Paul (Cage) and his two sons Thomas (Maxwell Jenkins) and Joseph (Jaeden Martell). The tight knit family is attempting to survive on an Earth that has been overrun by ravenous creatures!
