Director Isaac Florentine’s latest movie “Hounds of War” is directly in line with his creative aesthetic. When shooting action scenes, the sequences should almost always be fluid. Quick cutting, disorienting action has its time and place, but Florentine aims to bring “clarity” into these moments. Part of that approach springs from his lifelong passion for martial arts. It was three years ago when Kasey Bella Suarez made “Notice To Quit,” and now the teenager gets to watch the feature with her friends and loved ones starting today. Suarez was just “ten or eleven” when she was the co-lead in the comedy drama which is now playing in theaters. The actress talked about working with co-star Michael Zegen, why “Notice To Quit” was a special experience, and her goals for acting down the road.
Filmmaker/writer/musician Haroula Rose’s debut feature “Once Upon A River” was a contemplative and enriching coming of age story that told its narrative in a refreshingly gradual pace. Although “Happy Families” has a more comedic tone, Rose’s sophomore effort is just as nuanced. On the surface, a family drama set in Chicago may have a “been there, done that” feel. Instead, Rose opts for an immersive “snapshot” into their lives. Personally, I would love to see more of these “All Happy Families” characters, and Rose talked to Deepest Dream about her singular approach to this family dramedy.
Jessica Belkin is very proud of her latest feature “Last Straw,” a horror/siege thriller which gives her a plum role and intriguing narrative. Director Alan Scott Neal and writer Taylor Sardoni have delivered a nail-biting tale spotlight’s Belkin’s flourishing leading role talents. The documentary “Happy Campers” is now out on Video on Demand, and this is a feature that all of us atCinemAddicts recommend. Directed by Amy Nicholson, the narrative centers on the residents of a waterfront campground off the coast of Virginia. This area, known as Inlet View, is a utopia that will inevitably be taken over by million dollar homes and urban sprawl. Nicholson, however, took a refreshingly different approach to her documentary, and she talked about that process during the interview.
