Ross Partridge (Lamb, Room 104) directs Birthrite, a folk horror which centers on a woman named Maya (Alice Kremelberg) who inherits a home from an estranged aunt. A seemingly idyllic chapter with her girlfriend (Juani Feliz) and their unnborn child gradually turns into a nightmarish existence for Maya and her loved ones. Check out CinemAddicts host Bruce Purkey’s review!

Although Bruce Purkey says the lead actresses are both “really good and engaging,” he claims Birthrite simply is a trope heavy narrative that may remind viewers of Rosemary’s Baby and The Omen. “I wish the story would have been a little more unique or daring,” said Purkey who rated it 2.5/5 stars. “Nothing exemplary here.”

Rounding out the ensemble are Michael Chernus, Patch Darragh, Owen Campbell, Jennifer Lafleur and Henny Russell. Maybe CinemAddicts co-host Eric Holmes will give Birthrite a shot since he has enjoyed Campbell’s previous films Candy Land and My Heart Can’t Beat Unless You Tell It To.
