“It was very surreal,” said Allie Rae on getting feedback from the coaches after her ‘Black Velvet’ performance. “Talking to my idols and people that I have looked up to and wanted to base my career off of. Getting feedback from them was so awesome, (and) just getting to hear what they thought about me and my voice.”
Rae described her “Black Velvet” Blind performance on The Voice as a “full circle moment” since she had been singing that song for four years, and it was the first track she ever played with a band. That instance was several years back, and now Rae is an artist who has released her share of music, including the single “Two Step.”
“It is a Christian song,” said Rae. “At first you don’t quite get that because it’s a different kind of Christian music, but everything that I have done and will continue to do has been rooted in Christ, and I wanted to write a song that anybody could listen to no matter if you believe or not. But this song really spoke to me. I had the idea for the music, and I sat down with my co-writers, and we played it. And it was going in a completely different than what it is today. I kept getting notifications from my Bible app, and it was about how we need to have our walk with Christ and it can look different for everybody.”

Rae’s music, while rooted in country, also has a Blues foundation, and during her Blinds she mentioned late Blues singer Koko Taylor as an influence. “I got the opportunity to go to Beale Street and perform in the International Blues Challenge, and that week I was introduced to so many different types of music, and all music stemmed from blues,” said Rae. “And just to see under one big umbrella of blues how many different types of music you can hear and how just people connected with it.”
“KoKo Taylor is awesome,” added Rae. “She gives gritty and soulful vibes, and I love that sound. My favorite song by her is ‘Voodoo Woman.’ I just love the blues. You can put out so many feelings in blues, and that’s what I like to do with my music. I like to make people feel something.”
Allie Rae also released another single this year titled “Once I Make Up My Mind.” Give it a listen:
