Opening in theaters April 13, 5 to 7 centers Brian (Anton Yelchin), a struggling New York writer who is romantically involved with Arielle (Bérénice Marlohe) a married woman with a liberated view on relationships. Their bond is immediate (some would say love at first sight), and for two hours a day they continue to fall deeper in love with each other.
Though the trailer conveys 5 to 7’s ample humor, the story is rooted in drama, as writer/director Victor Levin gives viewers an intimate look at a couple whose lives are inextricably changed for the better. Filled with heartache, refreshingly unabashed sentimentality, and universal truth, 5 to 7 is a complete charmer (I’ll post an in-depth review down the road).
During the interviews, I asked Bérénice Marlohe, who’s best known for her work in the James Bond feature Skyfall, about working on 5 to 7, and she explained why she was was drawn to the material.
“The most beautiful topic for me in this movie is that yes – for instance love is eternal in a way . . . it can be love for the ancestors you’ve never met . . . We are a collection of memories.”
