Match, an indie film headlined by Austin Nichols (John from Cincinnati, Ray Donovan) and Ahna O’Reilly (The Help, Where the Crawdads Sing), has its world premiere September 17 at the DTLA Film Festival. The movie was shot in just 5 days in September 2020.
Directed, penned, and produced by Sean McGinly, Match centers on two people who meet on an online dating site. The narrative is told via the emails and text they send each other.
“(Match) was something I had originally written as a play based in part on a personal experience. My conceit was a story about two people who meet on a dating site that would consist only of their email and text communications to one another,” said McGinly. “I’d done my share of internet dating and always found it fascinating. There’s a kind of world you go into when you connect with another person virtually and begin sharing intimacies with them. It’s intense and I wanted to find a way to show that in a film and maybe say something about modern dating.”
McGinly won Best Screenplay at the DTLA Film Festival for his 2019 feature Silver Lake.
Running at 91 minutes, Match has its world premiere September 17 in a narrative feature competition at the Regal LA Live Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. For ticket information, go here.
