Mandibles centers on Manu (Grégoire Ludig) and Jean-Gab (David Marsais), best friends who find a giant fly in the backseat of their car. Instead of completing a paid mission, the pair diverge from the plan and attempt to train the fly! It’s a preposterous premise from filmmaker Quentin Dupiex (Deerskin), but it absolutely works! Dupieux talked to Deepest Dream about his feature, love for Raising Arizona, and why he wants to do a Mandibles sequel!

Although it’s a scant 77 minutes, its effortless humor and surprising level of humanity made Mandibles an engaging cinematic experience. With respect to David Marsais and Grégoire Ludig (both great as the unassuming leads), Adéle Exarchopouls steals the show as Agnés, a strong willed woman who suffers no fools.

During our chat, director/writer Quentin Dupieux talked about his beloved film (as of this post it has a 93% rating on RT), creating the fly without the extensive use of CGI (everything except the fly’s legs are puppet based), and why a Mandibles sequel is a possibility!
