On the latest Find Your Film podcast we review Netflix’s Stowaway and the new romantic comedy Together Together. Bruce and I loved Together Together and I also highly recommend Stowaway (Bruce gives it a “slight” recommend). Eric Holmes also spearheads our discussion of Trigger Point and Bill Traylor: Chasing Ghosts!

Directed and co-written by Arctic filmmaker Joe Penna, Stowaway centers on a three person crew (Toni Collette, Daniel Dae Kim, Anna Kendrick) who are on a two year mission to Mars. A fourth person (Shamier Anderson) surfaces, and his addition compromises their survival.
Penna uses the sci-fi genre to craft a resonant tale on accountability and sacrifice. Powered by solid work from the entire ensemble (Kendrick delivers a pinpoint performance), Stowaway is a must see. That said, co-host Bruce Purkey had a different take on the matter!
Bruce and I both enjoyed (to a high degree) Together Together, a comedy that centers on an app developer (Ed Helms) who strikes an unexpected bond with his surrogate (Patti Harrison). Matt (Harris) is focused on being a single dad, and he crosses way too many boundaries in making sure Anna (Harrison) is healthy during her pregnancy.

Written and directed by Nikole Beckwith, Together Together personally resonated with me (as a 49-year-old, I can relate to Matt’s goals of being a dad). More importantly, this is just a well written and beautifully acted tale. The feature hits theaters today and I will definitely purchase this movie when it hits digital on May 11.
Co-host Eric Holmes wanted us to review the documentary Bill Traylor: Chasing Ghosts, which is now streaming via Kino Marquee. This project did not resonate with Holmes, but I also recommend this project just for getting to know about this talented and unique artist. I definitely want to check out an exhibition of Traylor’s work and read more about his life thanks to Bill Traylor: Chasing Ghosts.
Other films covered in the podcast include Trigger Point (a Barry Pepper action thriller that Eric and I both recommend) and The Day of the Beast (this was, from his sheer glee during his review, Bruce’s favorite movie of the week). For the What’s in the Box segment, Bruce reviewed The Kid with a Bike.
