Director Neill Blomkamp’s acclaimed science fiction thriller District 9 is coming oout on 4K Ultra HD on October 13 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Bonus features information is below!
Produced by Peter Jackson and directed (and co-penned) by Neill Blomkamp, District 9 centers on a world where aliens live among us, but are exiled to a slum on the edge of Johannesburg. The movie marked the feature acting debut of Sharlto Copley who plays a bureaucrat at the MNU Department of Alien Affairs who ultimately develops a bond with the aliens (they are called “Prawns”) he has assigned to relocate.
The 4K Ultra HD Bonus Materials include the “Comic-Con Extravaganza” featurette and original theatrical trailers. Blu-ray Bonus materials include deleted scenes, director’s commentary, the three-part documentary “The Alien Agenda: A Filmmaker’s Log,” “Metamorphosis: The Transformation of Wikus,” “Innovation: Acting and Improvisation,” “Conception and Design: Creating the World of District 9,” Alien Generation: Visual Effects,” and “Joburg from Above: Interactive Map of Satellite and Schematics of the World of District 9.”
Blomkamp’s subsequent films are 2013’s Elysium and Chappie (released in 2015). My CinemAddicts podcast partner Anderson Cowan is a huge fan of Chappie, and although I am a big fan of District 9, I still haven’t seen the filmmaker’s past two movies.
The filmmaker, who has made several shorts the past several years, posted this encouraging tweet from June:
I think I’m back. Starting to make films again.
