Based on the children’s book by Kate DiCamillo, The Tiger Rising centers on Rob Horton (Christian Convery) an imaginative 12-year-old who is tasked with taking care of a caged tiger. Dennis Quaid plays is the obnoxious motel manager who has kept the tiger locked up and has given Rob this dangerous job of caring for the tiger.

Rounding out the cast is Madalen Mills as Sistine, Rob’s initially unapproachable classmate and Queen Latifah as the kindhearted motel maid. Sam Trammell and Katharine McPhee co-star as Rob’s parents.

Writer/director Ray Giarratana delivers a family film that focuses on how children can process their respective grief and move forward with their lives. Convery and Mill deliver believable performances, and The Tiger Rising is worth a look especially if resonant family fare is in your wheelhouse.
