With her Best Actress (Motion Picture, Drama) for Killers of the Flower Moon, Lily Gladstone is the first Indigeous actor to win a Golden Globe. During the event she opened her acceptance speech in the Blackfeet language. Gladstone talked about that instance during her backstage interviews (which you can listen to below).

“I’m so grateful that I can speak even a little bit of my lanugage because in this business, Native actors used to speak their lines in English and then the sound mixers would run them backwards to accomplish Native languages on camera,” said Lily Gladstone in her acceptance speech.

Gladstone said speaking in the Blackfeet language was one of the more “natural things” she could have done in the moment:

Killers of the Flower Moon, co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio, premieres globally on Apple TV+ on January 12.
