The Ordinary Angels idea came from none other than popular singer/songwriter Dave Matthews. “I had a meeting with him,” said Jon Berg. “He’s hilarious (and) he’s such a talented musician. But he’s also like a stand-up comedian. We had a great meeting, and at the end he said ‘Hey, I should tell you about something that I’m producing.”
Matthews, best known as the frontman for the Dave Matthews Band, discovered the story of a churchgoing community in Kentucky that banded together to aid a widowed father and his daughter. Berg was “blown away” by the true story and Matthews agreed to have Berg on board to help get the movie made.
That was back in 2018, and now Ordinary Angels is in theaters. With Oscar winning actress Hilary Swank and Reacher’sAlan Ritchson leading the ensemble, Ordinary Angels hopes to draw an invested moviegoing audience this weekend.
“It’s emotionally honest,” added Berg. “And I love the performances, so I’m proud of (Ordinary Angels).
Berg also discusses his successful producing career and reflected on such past hits as Elf,The Bourne Identity, and Wonder Woman. He recalls that the praised Tom Cruise feature Edge of Tomorrow. though not an immediate hit, grew in popularity over time.
